Ribuan gay dan lesbian merayakan aturan baru ini dengan gembira. "Ketika semua orang Amerika diperlakukan setara, tak peduli siapapun mereka dan siapapun yang mereka cintai, kita semua menjadi lebih merdeka," kata Presiden Obama saat memberikan selamat atas beleid ini.
